So I clicked on the article naming the new Pope. Although I could care less about who is Pope or the "authority" of the Pope I admittedly was interested in who was next. It was front page news after all. I skimmed the article and came across some quotes by this new guy about how he wants to get away from things like atheism, agnosticism, relativism and a bunch of other isms. I've heard of most of those terms but never really researched them so I decided to do some quick searches on them. Apparently Thomas Henry Huxley coined the term Agnostic in the 1860s to describe what his thoughts were about things in general. The term was meant specifically as a label for his own beliefs and not as the belief system that it is seen as today. I searched a little more and found that surveys taken today say most scientest consider themselves agnostic or atheist. Even back in the early 1900s a more than 50% of scientest surveyed replied with agnostic or aethist. But here is the funny part (in my opinion). In examples given of prominent scientests throughout history when they are asked about their belief system they reply with agnostic or aethist seemingly only because it is the only thing that those asking the question seem to understand. It is as if they have moved past such questions of existence of god because it is utterly illogical and reluctantly allow themselves to be categorized using such labels. The orginator of the term Agnostic said himself that there is no real organized agnostic system it was just somthing to describe his own personal beliefs. Probably because he got tired of explaining it to people in so many words, ha. So where am I going with this. Nowhere I guess. Modern homo-sapiens have been around for about 70,000. The major religions have been around for about 2,000 years. It may take another 2,000 years to get that turd out of our system. Probably was some bad pork we ate about 3,000 years ago.
