Slacker
Saturday May 29, 2004 - 12:00AM EDT
Dude, I am a slacker. I haven't updated the site in a few days, pathetic.
Anyway, I got the web statistics working. It turns out that no one is visiting
my site and that the bandwidth transfer numbers are wrong. Still need to
find out why. I used my car this weekend, to go see a movie. The Day After
Tomorrow, it was nothing special, typical summer blockbuster where a lot
of shit gets destroyed. Not a thinking type of movie although it could have
been. Yeah it was bad science but so is pretty much all global warming talk
that you hear of in the media is bad science. Fact is that our computer
models are not complex enough to accurately predict global warming. We can't
even predict the weather all that accurately on a region by region basis.
Really it is just a matter of computer power and models. We understand the
physics and atmospheric interactions. But it happens on such a large scale
with such a huge amount a variables that current technology and methods
are not adequate to make accurate prediction. Remeber the most powerful
computers in the world usually do either one of two things, predict weather
or nuclear explosions. Even these computers are not enough to provide the
type of accuracy scientests dream of.
Tomorrow I will continue walking to the gym. On Wednesday class begins,
I'll probably walk to class too. Hopefully something interesting will happen
now that I have a camera. I am about to start reading Don Quixote. I also
have been playing around with the idea of consumerism dying out in our society.
Seems utterly impossible in todays world, but there may be a way to transition
to a soceity not based on consumerism, but based on progressivism. I have
yet to define progressiveism but that is what I'll call it for now. Basic
idea is that humans live not to attain wealth and power, but to explore
and progress the human civilization. OK so it sound like a utopian fantasy
right? Yeah it does, only because I am not giving you my whole thought.
Benifits will of progressivism will dwarf those of consumerism, lets just
leave it at that for now. Right now, money and power is the reach and it
is usually through progression of mankind that money and power is achieved.
Lets cut out the middle man of money and power, and reach just for progression.
It is a logical way to live, much more than aiming for money and power.
Human's own limited life and societal traditions have made the philosophy
of people shortsighted. I will contiue this is a manifesto section.
